2010 AGALI Fellows – Malawi

Joyce Chikakuda is a co-founder and Communications Director for Girls Empowerment Network en Malawi. Joyce works with young people on various issues including gender, human rights, child development, HIV/AIDS and education. She holds a Diploma in Public Relations.
Hamilton Alinane Chimala, BSc leads a team of 14 as the Projects Manager at the Development Broadcasting Unit (DBU) of the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation. His team is actively involved in advocacy and programming focused on adolescent girls. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communications, as well as a Diploma in Journalism and several post graduate certificates.
Fryson Chodzi is Executive Director of Counselling of the Adolescent and Youth Organization (CAYO). CAYO is a unique organization that aims to develop girls into leaders in the youth development sector. Fryson has earned a Degree in International Development and also holds a Diploma in Youth In Development.
Thomas James Kanjodo, BA works as a Program Officer for the Creative Centre for Community Mobilization (CRECCOM), a local NGO engaged in research, training, and community mobilization on issues related to gender, education, child labor and HIV/AIDS. One of the programs he manages is the Ambassadors Girls Scholarship Program (AGSP), which is funded by the Africa Education Initiative of USAID. Mr. Kanjodo possesses a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Mathematics and Statistics, awarded by the University of Malawi, Chancellor College in 1994.
Wekha Jackson Khonje, BBA currently works as a program officer for Youth Participation and Economic Empowerment with the National Youth Council of Malawi. She holds a Degree in Business Administration, as well as a Diploma in Youth Development Work.
Elita Yobe is the Projects and Training Coordinator for the Ecumenical Counselling Centre (ECC) based in Lilongwe, Malawi. Her projects focus on family & marriage, gender-based violence and HIV/AIDS counseling, providing a forum where women can access sexual and reproductive health information and also share their experiences. Ms. Yobe also coordinates a sensitization project aimed at the prevention of trafficking in women and children.
